1. General information
Students will be offered complete and detailed information on the diatopic varieties of Aragonese, with a linguistic geography and dialectology component.
The main objectives are to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge to distinguish and understand oral and written messages in the different diatopic varieties, to know and use the appropriate tools for the study of the isoglosses and linguistic areas of the Aragonese language. These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030:
(https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement: 4, 5, 8, 9 and 17.
2. Learning results
- Knows the concepts of linguistic atlas and dialectal monograph, knows how to handle the main linguistic atlases referring to Aragon, the main dialectal monographs referring to Aragonese and how to interpret linguistic maps.
- Distinguishes the different linguistic areas of Aragonese and the main isoglosses that serve to delimit them, according to the differential facts manifested in phonetics, morphology, syntax and lexicon.
- Knows the regional geographic variants of Aragonese, identifies the diatopic variety of a text (oral or written) by its phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical characteristics, locating it precisely on the map, and is able to accommodate it to another diatopic variety, following basic transformation rules.
- Distinguishes a text written in common literary Aragonese from a text written in a diatopic variety and knows how to explain the differences
- Knows and appreciates texts and oral productions in different diatopic varieties of Aragonese.
- Knows and knows how to handle the bibliography and the pertinent tools for the study of the diatopic variation of Aragonese.
3. Syllabus
1. Linguistic geography and dialectology. General concepts. Linguistic atlases and their use. The dialectal monographs. 2. The territory of Aragonese: dialectal areas and isoglosses according to the distribution of phonetic phenomena. 3. The territory of Aragonese: dialectal areas and isoglosses according to the distribution of morphological and syntactic phenomena. 4.
The territory of Aragonese: some dialectal areas and isoglosses, according to the distribution of lexical phenomena. 5. The western diatopic varieties. 6. The central diatopic varieties. 7. Eastern diatopic varieties. 8. The diatopic varieties of the intra-Pyrenean depression and pre-Pyrenean areas. 9. The southern diatopic varieties.
4. Academic activities
Classroom activities (60 hours)
- Theoretical classes of exposition and explanation of the different units of the program: 17 h.
- Practical classes, which will consist of the reading, analysis and commentary of dialectal texts for the classification of the different varieties: 40 hours.
- Assessment tests: 3 hours.
Non-face-to-face activities (90 hours)
- Reading, analysis and commentary of texts: 60 hours.
- Individual study: 30 hours.
5. Assessment system
The subject will be assessed by the continuous assessment system by means of the following activities:
1. Practical exercises in class: 60 %.
Assessment criteria:
- Submission within the proposed deadlines.
- Analysis and commentary of dialectal texts in which the diatopic variety of Aragonese must be identified.
- Analysis and interpretation of linguistic maps
2. Final test: 40 %.
- Analysis and commentary of dialectal texts in which the diatopic variety must be identified and the conclusion reached must be argued
- Questions about the subject´s syllabus.
- Analysis and interpretation of a linguistic map.
Evaluation and grading criteria:
The students who cannot participate in the face-to-face activities will take a final test of similar characteristics to those indicated above and a work tutored by the teacher, whose evaluation criteria will be those indicated in the first evaluation activity.
In the 5th and 6th calls, the characteristics of the tests, the instruments and the evaluation criteria will be the same as in the rest of the calls and will be in accordance with what has been specified above.
In any case, as part of the evaluation, the teacher may request, at random, the oral defence of the test or assignment submitted in writing, for the verification of the grade.
Finally, it must be taken into account that the Regulations of the Rules of Coexistence of the University of Zaragoza will be applicable to irregularities committed in the evaluation tests through academic fraud, as well as the application of article 30 of the Regulations of the Rules of Evaluation of Learning in relation to irregular practices other than academic fraud.
